Boveda Packets have been specifically designed to raise the moisture level in the wood of your humidor to the humidity level you will be storing your cigars. Boveda makes two-way humidity control for many products like cigars, wood instruments, food and more. You choose what relative humidity (RH) you need based on the product you are protecting. All Boveda products are accurate to +/- 1% of the RH printed on the pack in an airtight environment. 70% relative humidity is a good average for all cigars. Studies have shown that certain cigars are best and reveal their peak taste and character when equilibrated and stored at a specific humidity level between 60% RH and 72% RH – as dictated by the characteristics of the cigar’s blend and primarily the cigar’s wrapper. Cuban cigars are best at 60-65% RH; cigars with a Cameroon wrapper are best at 70-72%; Nicaragua, 68-70%; cigars with a Dominican wrapper, such as the Fuente and OpusX are best at 60-65%; cigars with a Connecticut Shade wrapper will not be affected between 65-72% RH. The Boveda packets do this the correct way—gradually—over a period of just ten days. This gradual process ensures that the wood does not acquire mold, a mustiness smell, or warp – as commonly happens when following traditional seasoning methods of spraying, sponging or wiping the box down with water.
